GRAAM’s " Sugamya Shiksha” – Enabling Access to Learning amidst Pandemic "

We are all passing through a very tough and unpredictable phase in our life. COVID-19 has brought a massive challenge in all aspects. Especially to the school going children. The Schools are shut since March 2020, leading to a great loss of learning. The children advised to stay away from casual interaction & games in groups or among their friends and classmates. Children are restricted only to home and the online classes and classes on television. This is posing a great challenge to the children to adopt to such a drastic change. A large section of the society still cannot afford to buy good quality smartphone or laptop which is a necessity for the online educational system. In view of this and keeping in mind of social and psychological aspects of the children. GRAAM in partnership with its CSR partner Aris Global Software Pvt Ltd. has come up with Community learning centers, which enables access to learning and benefits the student community at all levels in the present COVID-19 context.

These learning centers enable children to learn while taking precautionary health measures. This provides a space for the children to interact with each other, share their thoughts, ideas, communicate their feelings and many more opportunities.

GRAAM has been conducting classes since the state govt. has announced to conduct community learning centers. The key objective of these centers is `Learning & Advancement’. It started with three learning centers in the month of July, 2020. Now, it has increased to more than 10 learning centers across Mysore upon received demands from the community. These centers are being run at community halls / Anganwadi / garage etc,. where it is safe, accessible and close by the children in the locality, having clean and healthy environment.  About more than 250 children hailing from Govt. and Pvt. Schools.

Community Learning Centers are managed by well experienced teaching facilitators who are equipped with teaching languages, basic mathematics, life skills & yoga. Each batch consists 10 children, learning for two hours in a day. Prayer, moral storytelling, meditation and newspaper reading has been part everyday schedule. Yogasana will be performed on every Saturdays. These centers strictly adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines, like Physical distancing, frequent hand washing / sanitization, thermal check and wearing mask.
