Dr. Shivakumar Nayka

Research Fellow

Dr. Shivakumara Nayka is a Research Associate  at GRAAM.  Mr. Nayka holds M Sc in Geography and M Tech in Geographic Information Systems.  He received a doctorate in Development Studies (Urban studies)  from ISEC.  

He has more than   10 years of work experience in Research and his expertise includes  satellite data handling / analysis,  database design for water resources related applications, urban commuters, land use &  land cover  and watershed planning. 

At ISEC, his  works  extensively included  GIS aspects of various projects , and he  also has worked on certain projects with the mapping company of Nokia in Gurgaon, India. To add to his GIS skills, he worked as a project trainee with the Regional Remote Sensing Centre-South, NRSC/ISRO (National Remote Sensing Centre and Indian Space Research Organization) in Bangalore. His technical skills encompass a wide range of GIS Software such as ArcGIS, 10.1 Arc pad, City Engine, and image processing software including Erdas Imagine. 

During the course of his career he worked with various Research Projects on  

  •  Urban Primacy in Karnataka: Infrastructure, Policy and Disposal for Job.
  • Evaluation Study on Impact of i-RTC and RTC Wallet-Land Records (RTC) Through Internet (E-Governance).
  • End of Project Impact Evaluation Study of Sujala-III. 
  • Performance Audit on Management of Waste Water and Sanitary Installation (Toilets) in Bengaluru Metropolitan Area. 
  • Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) for all India level at Agricultural Development and Rural Transformation Centre Fare Fixation for Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation. 
  • Evaluation study on the impact and advantages of the various services with a particular focus on the Helpdesk initiated by Karnataka StateNatural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) 
  • Terrain Characteristics of New railway Alignment from Ramanahalli to Chikkamangaluru. Utility Mapping of Tiruchirapalli City Using GIS. 


Apart from   this he is interested in  Sports and cultural activities.
