Empowering Change: Koorgalli Government School Leads the Way

In the heart of Mysuru district, Koorgalli Government Senior Primary School stands as a beacon of progress today. The school, hosting over 320 students from economically challenged backgrounds in the industrial area, has witnessed a transformative journey guided by the Sugamya Shiksha program and the proactive involvement of the community.

The initiation of SDMC formation in the starting of academic year was the beginning of a change. Followed by this, through the efforts of the Sugamya Shiksha team, parents were actively engaged in the creation of a dedicated School Development Committee (SDMC). The committee underwent training, gaining insights into its role and responsibilities. A tour to model schools further fueled their determination to bring positive change.

The SDMC, driven by a spirit of innovation, introduced uniforms for students and designed a plan for track suits, parallel to the norm prevalent in private schools. Despite economic constraints, the committee sought donors, enabling every child to wear vibrant blue T-shirts and pants. This move not only boosted children's interest but also garnered appreciation from parents and teachers.

Addressing practical issues, the committee took measures to protect water taps from misuse and prevent recurrent damages. Permanent repairs were made, and grills were installed to safeguard the drains. The SDMC showcased its resourcefulness by actively involving community members in these initiatives, reflecting a sense of shared responsibility.

The school faced numerous infrastructural challenges related to electricity bills, furniture, and wall paint. Collaborating with local industries, the SDMC successfully secured resources to pay the monthly electricity bill and refurbish furniture and walls. The community's support, coupled with the Sugamya Shiksha team efforts, resulted in the establishment of a computer laboratory, providing students with essential computer training.

Beyond infrastructure, the SDMC, in collaboration with the students' union and the community, organized various programs, contributing to the construction of improved library facilities. The collective efforts of the SDMC, teachers, and the Sugamya Shiksha program have turned Kurgalli Government School into a model for educational development, proving that a community-driven educational system is not only possible but also crucial for qualitative education.

As the school strides towards becoming a model institution, it exemplifies the profound impact a united community can have on shaping a brighter future for its children. Kudos to the SDMC members, teachers, and the entire community for their unwavering commitment to educational excellence.

"When I took the Sugamya Shiksha workers to different schools on a trip and saw what the committee members had done there, I thought why our school could not be the same. I sat down and listed whatever problems were there, what were the possible solutions, and the what the teachers and the other committee members are planning for development."

– Devaraju, President, SDMC, Sahipra School, Koorgalli

"Our school is taking steps to become a step by step model with the help of SDMC, teachers, the Sugamya Shiksha Program and other donors. This showcases how important the role of the community is for children to achieve qualitative education, seen practically in our school. We thank all the teachers on behalf of them."

– Nagaraju, Head Teacher, Sahipra School, Koorgalli
