Project objectives:

Election Commission in Karnataka carried out a scientific baseline study to gauge the level of knowledge, attitude and participation/practices of voters in elections. The main objective of this project was to provide input and feedback for an effective campaign strategy by understanding the ground realities and perceptions of voters. This study aimed at understanding perceptions of people, both general and specific, about the elections, the electoral process and the initiatives undertaken by the election Commission.

Project Result / Accomplishments:

Key findings from the study

  • The finding suggest that the voters are not aware of the initiatives introduced by the Election Commission to empower them and there is a need for wider outreach and publicity about the same.
  • Educational Institutions and Public spaces need to be used to spread awareness about the electoral process.
  • Enrolment drives, SVEEP interventions need to be made every year and not just before any major state or National Elections.
  • Local icons should be used to promote enhanced electoral participation.
