It’s been six years since the CSR law has been implemented in India. Companies have found a great traction towards spending a portion of their profit for the larger social good. Infact most corporates have understood CSR is not a spending, it’s actually an investment. It is an investment for the welfare and betterment of the community in which they operate, who are also their key stakeholder. It is important to understand whether the CSR project objectives are met, the output and outcomes are achieved and impact is created when substantial resources are being invested. Now, with the amended CSR rules, Social Impact Assessments (SIAs) have become an important part of the investment for the corporates. SIA will provide evidence to the company in understanding the social returns the initiative is gaining. The evidence needed for the evaluation is derived from participatory approaches, mainly with beneficiaries and all the stakeholders involved in the process of change.
