Mr Nagendra Kumar

Shri D.P. Nagendra Kumar is a 1985 batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer (Customs & Central Excise) with over 37 years of experience in administering indirect taxes at senior managerial and policy-making levels. He has held several key positions, including Principal Chief Commissioner of GST in Karnataka and Special Secretary & Member of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), from which he superannuated in July 2022. He holds an MBA from Bangalore University and a Degree in Law from Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai.

He is credited with establishing the first Large Taxpayer Unit (LTU) in the country at Bengaluru in 2006 and played a pivotal role in the drafting of the Model GST Law as a member of the Law Drafting Committee under the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers. He has trained over 10,000 Central and State Tax officers on GST Laws, Rules, and Procedures across India.

Post-retirement, he was nominated as a Member of the Expert Committee constituted by the Finance Minister to recommend measures for promoting Private Equity and Venture Capital investments in India. He continues to be actively involved in policy advocacy and capacity building. He was conferred the prestigious Presidential Award — Certificate of Appreciation for Distinguished Record of Service — on Republic Day 2009.

He also serves as Guest Faculty at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, National Judicial Academy (NJA) Bhopal, NACIN, ICAI, ICWA, and the Institute of Company Secretaries.
