Evaluation Studies on the Impact of the National Health Mission (NHM) in Achieving Universal Access to Equitable, Affordable, and Quality Health Care Services in Karnataka through the STEMI Program and Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs)/Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) in Delivering Comprehensive Primary Healthcare.

This evaluation study aims to assess the extent to which the National Health Mission (NHM) has contributed to improving access to equitable, affordable, and quality healthcare services in Karnataka. The focus is on evaluating two critical interventions under NHM:

1. Phase-I & II of the STEMI Program, which targets timely and efficient management of acute myocardial infarction (heart attacks) through a hub-and-spoke model, and
2. Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs)/Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs), which are designed to deliver comprehensive primary healthcare services with a focus on preventive, promotive, curative, rehabilitative, and palliative care.

The study will examine the implementation processes, utilization, service delivery outcomes, and the overall impact of these programs on health access, quality, and equity.

OBJECTIVES: 

• To evaluate the effectiveness of the STEMI Program in improving timely diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes for cardiac emergencies.
• To assess the reach, functionality, and service delivery performance of HWCs/AAMs in providing comprehensive primary healthcare.
• To analyse the impact of these NHM interventions on improving accessibility, affordability, and quality of healthcare services.
• To identify implementation challenges, best practices, and areas for strengthening program efficiency and sustainability.
• To provide evidence-based recommendations for scaling and enhancing the NHM interventions in Karnataka.
