Objective:

  • To understand the immediate and medium-term effects of exposure to all five aspirations-related chapters
  • To interpret the nature of changes visible across the wide range of actors, that is, girls, parents, other family members, peers, teachers, and school heads.
  • To explore the pathways to change, visible in terms of the specific behaviours girls undertake, after getting exposed to the five aspirations-related chapters.
  • To identify specific content within the five aspirations-related chapters positively contributing to building aspirations of the adolescent girls.

Project Results / Accomplishments:

Many girls reported increased confidence in envisioning diverse career paths beyond traditionally female-dominated professions, indicating a positive shift in their self-perceptions. The program’s impact was not limited to individual participants but extended to their families, peers, and teachers, highlighting the role of interconnected systems in shaping gender-related attitudes and behaviors. Teachers played a crucial role as facilitators, employing gender-inclusive pedagogical practices to challenge stereotypes and promote equal participation in classroom discussions. Parents, on the other hand, exhibited a more complex response. While many acknowledged the value of education and career aspirations for their daughters, deep-rooted societal norms, concerns over safety, and economic constraints continued to influence their decisions.

Recommendations:

  • Enhance Access to Missed Session Content
  • Deepen Engagement Through Interactive Learning
  • Strengthen Career Guidance and Mentorship
  • Engage Families and Communities in Gender Equality Conversations
