Impact Assessment of Biocon Academy’s Advanced Learning and Upskilling Certificate Programs

The study is an Impact Assessment of Biocon Academy’s Advanced Learning and Upskilling Certificate Programs, undertaken to systematically evaluate the outcomes, effectiveness, and broader impact of the Academy’s industry-aligned training initiatives.

Biocon Academy, established in 2013 as a CSR initiative of Biocon, serves as a Centre of Excellence for Advanced Learning in Applied Biosciences. It aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and industry requirements by equipping life sciences graduates with practical, technical, and professional competencies required in the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical sectors.

Over the years, the Academy has offered multiple specialized certificate programs in collaboration with leading academic and industry partners such as KGI (USA), BITS Pilani, MS Ramaiah College, JSS AHER, and Syngene. These programs integrate:

  • Application-oriented conceptual learning
  • Hands-on laboratory training
  • Live industry exposure
  • Campus-to-corporate professional skill development

This impact assessment study aims to generate robust evidence on the program’s effectiveness in improving industry readiness, career progression, and professional development of alumni and current students, while identifying areas for program strengthening and future scalability.

Study Objectives

To assess the impact of Biocon Academy’s certificate programs on alumni and current students in terms of industry readiness, career progression, and overall professional development, and to provide actionable recommendations for enhancing program effectiveness and reach.

Specific Objectives

  1. To assess career outcomes and progression of alumni who have completed the certificate programs.
  2. To evaluate the relevance of the program models and training methodologies in meeting current and emerging industry needs.
  3. To explore the experiences of students and alumni regarding program delivery, faculty engagement, infrastructure, and industry exposure.
  4. To assess the perceived value and impact of subsidized fee support and placement facilitation, particularly in improving access and equity, including for women participants.
  5. To identify opportunities for enhancing student experience, content delivery, and long-term program impact.
