How can management education create meaningful social impact?
Recently, an inspiring example unfolded at SDM Institute for Management Development (SDMIMD) , where learning met purpose. Student groups from the Social Enterprise Research (SER) course presented their consultancy projects for WeMill, a social enterprise empowering 14 rural women entrepreneurs.
Bridging Classroom Learning and Real-World Impact
Each student group explored key business functions, branding & marketing (conventional & digital), sales, finance, operations, HR, supply chain, and technology adoption and applied the PACADI model to develop actionable insights.
The students presented their learning to the process owners of WeMill, receiving valuable feedback and guidance that helped them connect classroom concepts with real-world enterprise challenges.
GRAAM’s Participation
Mr. Janardhan, Director, WEMill, and Mr. Bhagavan Bidarakote, Lead Partnerships & Impact Consulting, GRAAM, participated in this live project, providing insightful inputs during the presentations. Their engagement enriched the students’ understanding of social enterprise realities and the practical challenges of empowering rural women entrepreneurs.
The initiative reflects GRAAM’s continued commitment to supporting educational programs that bridge academic learning with grassroots development.
Innovation in Action
The student teams also leveraged AI tools to design and present their consultancy reports, reflecting how analytical reasoning and digital innovation can enrich social impact consulting.
Learning with Purpose
This collaboration between SDMIMD, GRAAM, and WeMill demonstrates how management education can empower inclusive growth and strengthen rural women-led enterprises.
