Chanakya University and the Grassroots Research and Advocacy Movement (GRAAM) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Bengaluru. This collaboration focuses on enhancing engagement and involvement in academic endeavors, research initiatives, and knowledge-building programs. GRAAM will involve student interns from Chanakya University, offering them hands-on experience in various developmental themes. The MoU also facilitates the exchange of faculty and experts, bridging the gap between academia and practical application. The University presents the prestigious Chanakya Fellowship in Social Sciences (CFSS), a premier year-long residential postgraduate diploma program. Dr. Basavaraju R Shreshta, Executive Director, GRAAM was designated as faculty for designing and teaching a course on Rural Development for the Fellowship in Social Sciences (CFSS) in the Chanakya University.
It gathers enthusiastic fellows from diverse backgrounds eager to explore multiple disciplines and sectors. CFSS integrates core courses in Economics, International and Strategic Affairs, Political Science, and Public Policy, offering extensive interdisciplinary education. The program’s goal is to develop well-rounded individuals with specialized skills in specific domains alongside broad expertise in complementary fields, fostering versatile and knowledgeable professionals.
The course had various engagement activities in the class including exploration of key rural development programs being implemented by various Governments and NGOs in India. As each student shared these rural development models in the class, all the students got to know the interesting programs and models. As part of the course, students undertook the development assessment of a village in Ramanagara district of Karnataka. This gave first hand exposure to the students in understanding the present rural development scenario, participation of people, engagement of various stakeholders and the reach of different development schemes.
