The Policy Boot Camp, a joint initiative by GRAAM and Mount Carmel College, Bangalore, offered an intensive grassroots learning experience for 36 MA Public Policy students from February 19 to March 7, 2024. This program aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of policy implementation through a hands-on approach. Combining online sessions with offline workshops at GRAAM’s Satya Hall in Mysuru, the boot camp commenced with virtual modules introducing key government schemes and training in research methods by Dr. Rashmi, Dr. Sajeev, and insights from Dr. Rajendra Prasad on field data collection. Offline sessions included workshops on Panchayat systems and field visits to villages, where students conducted surveys and interviews to assess policy impacts firsthand.

Throughout the boot camp, students analyzed their findings and presented evidence-based recommendations for policy enhancements. This practical approach underscored the significance of integrating community perspectives into policy formulation, bridging theory with real-world application. The experience not only exposed participants to the complexities of grassroots governance but also equipped them with crucial skills for future policy making roles.

Involvement of the students in practical policy challenges and fostering community engagement, the Policy Boot Camp has empowered a new cohort of policy professionals with the insights and skills needed to contribute effectively to evidence-based policymaking.
