From Grassroots to Grand Stage: Rural Women Entrepreneurs Take Center Stage in Bengaluru

From Grassroots to Grand Stage: Rural Women Entrepreneurs Take Center Stage in Bengaluru

Imagine stepping out of a village community and bringing locally made, nutritious food products to the bustling marketplace of a metropolitan city. For the women entrepreneurs associated with WE MILL, this opportunity became a reality when they participated in the SARAS Mela held in Bengaluru during September, organised by the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM).

For these women, entrepreneurship is more than producing and selling goods; it is about transforming local resources, traditional knowledge, and collective efforts into sustainable livelihood opportunities. Through WE MILL, they work towards promoting nutritious food products made from traditional grains while creating greater market opportunities for women-led enterprises.

The SARAS Mela provided WE MILL with an important platform to introduce its brand and showcase its products to a wider audience. By setting up their stall at the event, the women entrepreneurs had the opportunity to connect directly with urban consumers, explain their products, and create awareness about the WE MILL brand.

The event brought together rural enterprises and consumers, creating opportunities for locally produced goods to reach markets beyond their immediate communities. For WE MILL, this was a valuable step towards expanding brand visibility and exploring new avenues for market access.

Direct engagement with customers also allowed the women to communicate the value of their products and understand consumer interests. Such interactions are essential for enterprises seeking to strengthen their market presence and build lasting customer relationships.

The experience of participating in the SARAS Mela extended beyond product promotion. Engaging with customers in a metropolitan market offered the WE MILL women valuable exposure to product presentation, customer communication, and brand promotion.

Interacting with a diverse audience helped them better understand the importance of packaging, product positioning, and consumer preferences. These experiences can contribute to improving their marketing strategies and preparing them to explore larger markets.

Most importantly, participating in a prominent marketplace provided an opportunity for the women to represent their enterprise, share their journey, and recognise the potential of their collective efforts. Such platforms can strengthen entrepreneurial confidence and encourage women to take a more active role in business development.
