GRAAM’s effort towards communitizing health in Jharkhand

GRAAM’s Executive Director, Dr. Basavaraju R was the Chief Guest and he spoke on the importance of Community Participation in Development and also handed over a token of appreciation to the Chair of the program.

Aug 24, Khunti: GRAAM in association with USAID NISHTHA an initiative of Jhpiego on Wednesday organized an Orientation Program for District Health officials on Jan Arogya Samitis (Khunti).  

As part of the project, RMNCH+A, FP & TB Services training was also inaugurated by the Civil Surgeon, Dr. Ajith Xalxo, Khunti.

GRAAM’s Executive Director, Dr. Basavaraju R was the Chief Guest and he spoke on the importance of Community Participation in Development and also handed over a token of appreciation to the Chair of the program.

Addressing CHOs, Sahiyas, and ANMs, Dr. Basavaraju R said that it was important to strengthen sustainable institutions- Health and Wellness Center (HWC) and Community. He suggested that Jan Arogya Samiti (JAS) was the best platform for reaching the community effectively.
He added that there is a need to make the community feel comfortable at government hospitals. 

The executive director further said that the cases of TB were prevalent in this region and people will not come proactively for the screening. He suggested that in these scenarios, JAS could be  effectively utilized. Dr Basavaraju concluded his session by saying that communicating health had to be the primary focus. 

Senior  Program Manager at JHPIEGO, Jharkhand, Mr. Ram Krishnan Kumar also addressed the gathering.
