What is the mission
The mission of Swachh Bharat Mission Urban (SBM-U) is to eliminate open defecation, improve solid waste management, and promote cleanliness and hygiene in urban areas of India.
The components of the Mission are:
- Construction of Household toilets, including conversion of insanitary latrines into pour-flush latrines.
- Construction of Community toilets,
- Construction of Public toilets and urinals.
- Solid waste management.
- IEC & Public Awareness.

Who implements the mission
The mission is implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) in collaboration with state governments, urban local bodies (ULBs), and other stakeholders.
